The Faculty of Biology and Geology is one of the twenty-one faculties of Babeș-Bolyai University and is regarded as one of the best faculties of its kind in Romania. It is one of the largest and prestigious one. It focuses on preparing specialists in various fields in biology and geology.
Young students, research assistants, associate professors and professors work together on various research projects like:
- isolation of prokaryotes from Transylvania salt lakes
- cancer research
- physiological stress induced by toxic compounds
- genes involved in bacterial resistance
- immunological research
All the investigations are carried out in the facilities of the Faculty and also in two large research facilities: The Electron Microscopy Center, The Institute for Interdisciplinary Research in Bio-Nano-Sciences.
